A delegation led by the European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, held a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin.
The meeting was held on Sunday at noon at the office of the commerce adviser in the Secretariat.
During the meeting, various aspects of trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the European Union were discussed in detail, according to a press statement.
At the meeting, Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin said, “The European Union (EU) is one of Bangladesh’s largest trading partners. There is significant potential for expanding trade with the EU. After assessing the feasibility of trade potential and analysing commercial data, Bangladesh wishes to move forward towards implementing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and subsequently a Free Trade Agreement.”
The head of the European Union delegation, Michael Miller, said trade is very important for improving relations. Noting that the European Union has a trade deficit with Bangladesh, he said there is an opportunity for both sides to prosper by addressing existing challenges in trade and investment relations.
Present at the meeting were the Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Mahbubur Rahman, the Ambassador of Spain, Gabriel Cistiaga, the Ambassador of Denmark, Christian Brix Møller, the Deputy Head of Mission of the French Embassy, Frédéric Inja, the Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy, Anja Christen, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Italian Embassy, Federico Zamparelli, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Swedish Embassy, Eva Smedebreg, and the Trade Advisor of the European Union Delegation to Bangladesh, Abu Said Belal.
