The Bangla Academy has expressed deep sorrow over the death of eminent artist, cultural personality and one of its distinguished fellows, Mustafa Monwar.
In a condolence message, Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Azam said that Monwar left a unique mark on Bangladesh’s art through his paintings while introducing generations of children and teenagers to educational entertainment through his pioneering work in puppetry.
He also noted that Monwar’s contribution to the creative development of Bangladesh’s mass media, including Bangladesh Television (BTV), will remain unforgettable.
The statement added that throughout his long career, Monwar enriched the country’s cultural landscape through his innovative thinking, creativity, talent and lifelong dedication to the arts.
“His contributions will be remembered with profound respect for years to come,” the statement said.
On behalf of the Bangla Academy, Mohammad Azam prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Mustafa Monwar passed away on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka.
His death has cast a pall of grief over Bangladesh’s art, literature and cultural communities.
