The prestigious Bangla Academy Literary Award 2025 has been officially announced, recognising distinguished contributions across major branches of Bengali literature and intellectual discourse.
The award was approved by the Academy’s Executive Council following recommendations from the nomination committee and the final decision of the Bangla Academy Literary Award Committee, according to a statement signed by Director General Mohammad Azam.
The awards will be formally conferred on February 26, 2026, during the inaugural ceremony of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026, organised by Bangla Academy. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to hand over the awards at the ceremony.
This year’s awardees represent a broad spectrum of literary and scholarly excellence. In poetry, the award goes to Mohan Raihan, while Nasima Anis has been recognised in fiction.
Syed Azizul Haque receives the honour in essays and prose, and Hasan Hafiz has been named for children’s literature.
In translation, the award goes to Ali Ahmad, while Mustafa Majid and Israil Khan have jointly been selected in the research category. Farsim Mannan Mohammadi has been honoured in science and Moeidul Hasan has been recognised for his contribution to Liberation War studies.
The Bangla Academy Literary Award is regarded as one of the highest state-recognised honours in Bangladesh’s literary arena. Conferred annually, it acknowledges outstanding contributions that enrich the Bengali language, literature, research and intellectual heritage.
The announcement comes ahead of the month-long Ekushey festivities, when the Amar Ekushey Book Fair becomes the epicentre of the country’s literary and cultural engagement, drawing writers, publishers, scholars and readers from across Bangladesh.
