Nineteen years after Awarapan introduced Emraan Hashmi as Shivam, the actor is returning to a character that remains deeply familiar to a generation of Bollywood viewers. Awarapan 2 is bringing Shivam back, but the nostalgia goes beyond the character.
According to NDTV, the sequel has also revived memories of the Emraan Hashmi who dominated Bollywood in the 2000s. For many viewers, seeing him as Shivam again feels like a return to a defining period of their lives.
When Awarapan arrived in 2007, audiences who watched Hashmi as Shivam were at a very different stage of life. Nearly two decades later, many have grown up, built careers, married and started families. Yet the actor’s return has brought back a familiar feeling.
That is one of the reasons Awarapan 2 has generated so much interest. The film is not simply reviving a character from a nearly two-decade-old movie. It is also bringing back an era of Hashmi’s career that many fans remember fondly.
During the 2000s, Hashmi became one of Bollywood’s most recognisable stars. His filmography included Murder, Zeher, Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Kalyug, Gangster, Jannat and Raaz: The Mystery Continues.
He later continued the run with films such as Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Murder 2, The Dirty Picture and Jannat 2.
Now, with Shivam back on screen, Awarapan 2 is offering audiences another chance to reconnect with the Emraan Hashmi they grew up watching.
