Pakistani music icon Atif Aslam has expressed his hope for a future collaboration between Coke Studio Pakistan and Coke Studio Bangla, praising Bangladesh’s evolving music scene and the platform’s role in promoting new talent.
Speaking during a press conference in Dhaka ahead of his Mainstage featuring Atif Aslam concert, the singer said he always looks forward to discovering new artists and fresh music. He said a collaboration between the two regional editions of Coke Studio would be a special moment for music lovers.
“I always look forward to new artists. I always look forward to new music and working with them as well. I think it’s a beautiful sound you guys are creating,” Atif said.
During the Q&A session, Times of Bangladesh asked the singer about his thoughts on Coke Studio Bangla and its growing popularity. In reply, Atif said, “I look forward to that one day when Coke Studio Pakistan collaborates with Coke Studio Bangla. That will be great.”
The singer also reflected on his celebrated rendition of Tajdar-e-Haram from Coke Studio Pakistan Season 8. The tribute to the legendary Sabri Brothers became one of the platform’s biggest successes, attracting more than 600 million views on YouTube.
Despite its popularity, Atif credited the original creators of the qawwali.
“I personally think that Tajdar-e-Haram is one where I don’t sort of own anything about it. The whole credit goes to Sabri Brothers because it was their original composition,” he said.
Calling the performance a challenge, he added, “It was very challenging for me to pay tribute to them. It was loved, which is why I am thankful again, but it had nothing of me. I just lent my voice to it and I am very happy about it.”
Atif also spoke about his long-standing connection with Bangladeshi fans, saying they make up a significant share of his audience across social media platforms.
“According to a survey that we do on social apps, most of our audience is from Bangladesh. I take pride in that because I love you guys so much and you have given me so much time for my music over the years,” he said.
He had also promised something special for his Dhaka audience, including songs he had never performed in Bangladesh before. During the concert, he announced his upcoming album, Subha Aye Na, which is scheduled for release on 31 July.
Presented by Shah Cement and co-powered by Foodi, Mainstage featuring Atif Aslam took place on 24 July at Courtside, Madani Avenue (100 Feet), Dhaka.
The concert also featured performances by Bangladeshi acts Meghdol, Level Five, Renaissance and the Sufi band Qarar alongside Atif Aslam.
With a career spanning more than two decades, Atif remains one of South Asia’s most influential voices. From chart-topping hits including Aadat, Woh Lamhe, Tere Bin and Tu Jaane Na to his acclaimed Coke Studio performances, he continues to enjoy immense popularity across borders, particularly among Bangladeshi audiences.
