Actress and model Rukaiya Jahan Chamak has sparked discussion on social media after appearing in the look of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a new episode of her vlog series.
Chamak, who rose to prominence as the first runner-up of Miss World Bangladesh 2017, began acting on television around 2020. She later gained popularity through dramas and web series including Haider, House No-96, Mohanagar, Shada Private, Oshomapto and Viral Husband. She is now also active in blogging.
In the 19th episode of the second season of Discovering Bangladesh with Chamak, titled Begum Khaleda Zia, she appeared in a familiar look associated with the late BNP leader. The episode was filmed at locations including Dhaka’s Zia Udyan and in a studio.
Chamak wore a light-coloured printed sari, a pearl necklace and sunglasses. Her appearance drew praise from many viewers, with some saying she looked remarkably similar to Khaleda Zia and that, for a moment, it felt as if the former leader herself had appeared on screen.
In the video caption, Chomok described Khaleda Zia as Bangladesh’s first woman prime minister and referred to her as the “Mother of Democracy” and an uncompromising leader in the country’s political history.
Chamak had also made headlines earlier this year after purchasing a BNP nomination form to contest a reserved women’s parliamentary seat from a constituency in Kushtia. At the time, she also announced that she had formally joined the BNP.
