Alejandro Garnacho has joined Aston Villa from Chelsea on a season-long loan, with the Premier League club including an obligation to make the move permanent if agreed performance targets are met during the 2026-27 campaign.
Villa identified the 22-year-old Argentina winger as one of their priority targets during the summer rebuild. If the contractual conditions are fulfilled, Garnacho will sign a pre-agreed four-year permanent deal at Villa Park.
Villa manager Unai Emery welcomed the arrival of the young forward and backed him to strengthen his attacking options.
“We are very happy to have Alejandro with us. He is a very influential young footballer,” Emery said.
Garnacho joined Chelsea from Manchester United for £40 million in September last year. However, he struggled to establish himself as a regular at Stamford Bridge despite making 43 appearances across all competitions.
The Argentina international finished his Chelsea spell with eight goals and four assists but failed to produce the consistency expected after his high-profile transfer.
His departure gathered pace after Chelsea completed the club-record £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. The move reduced Garnacho’s chances of regular football and opened the door for Villa to secure his signature.
Manchester United will also benefit financially if the transfer becomes permanent. Under the terms agreed when Garnacho left Old Trafford, United are entitled to receive 10 per cent of any future permanent transfer fee.
Villa head into the new season with growing confidence after winning the UEFA Europa League and finishing fourth in the Premier League to secure UEFA Champions League qualification.
Emery’s side now turn their attention to the UEFA Super Cup, where they will face Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain on August 12 before beginning another campaign with high expectations.
