In a significant move towards social inclusion, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday handed over appointment letters to three individuals with disabilities.
These appointments are part of an initiative to empower disabled persons through employment, enabling them to become self-reliant and integrated into the national mainstream.
The three recipients are Ayesha Akter from Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha, Nila Khatun from Kamarkhand Upazila of Sirajganj, and Md Hasmat Ali from Narail Sadar Upazila.
They expressed immense joy upon receiving their letters directly from the prime minister, describing the moment as the start of a new career and new aspirations.
Both Nila and Ayesha are physically challenged. Nila, who was born without hands, completed her post-graduation by writing with her feet. She has been appointed as a teacher at Jatiya Protibondhi Unnayan Foundation (National Foundation for Development of the Disabled Person) in Mirpur, Dhaka.
Similarly, Ayesha also completed her post-graduation by writing with her feet. Due to the absence of hands, she accepted her appointment letter using her mouth. She will serve as a class supervisor at BIAM Laboratory School and College in Gaibandha.
The third appointee, Md Hasmat Ali, who is visually impaired, has been joined as a union social worker under Department of Social Services.
The ceremony was attended by Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister AZM Zahid Hossain, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Farzana Sharmin Putul, Social Welfare Secretary Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Jatiya Protibondhi Unnayan Foundation Managing Director Md Tariqul Alam, and Department of Social Services Director General Shah Mohammad Mahbub.
Following the presentation, Abdus Sattar Dulal, founder of Bangladesh Protibondhi Kallyan Samity, met with the prime minister to convey his gratitude for providing employment opportunities to the three individuals.
