Ashiqur Rahman Majumder is continuing as the fielding coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team. He conducted a national team training session on Sunday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur ahead of the three-match ODI series against Australia.
However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is expected to part ways with fielding coach James Pamment, with concerns over his injury and long-term availability, a board source confirmed to The Times of Bangladesh.
Pamment joined the Bangladesh setup as a specialist fielding coach on April 7, 2025, signing a contract that was due to run until the 2027 ODI World Cup. The former Auckland first-class cricketer missed Bangladesh’s recent Test series against Pakistan due to a back injury.
Concerns over his fitness and long-term availability are believed to have prompted the BCB to move in a different direction.
In Pamment’s absence, local coach Ashiqur stepped in as interim fielding coach during the two-Test home series against Pakistan. During that stint, he introduced several light-hearted and motivational methods, including fun-based fielding drills, reward systems involving chocolates and cash prizes, and a “Best Fielder” medal presented after matches.
