After a long wait, director Ashfaque Nipun has finally given fans a major hint about the much-anticipated third season of popular web series Mohanagar.
In a video released on his birthday, Nipun revealed that he is working on finishing the script for the new season, sending fans into a frenzy.
Mohanagar premiered in 2021 and played a significant role in establishing the popularity of web series in Bangladesh.
Its second season arrived two years later, earning widespread praise in Bangladesh and India for its story, screenplay and performances.
The ending of the second season had hinted at a third instalment. However, nearly three years passed without an official announcement.
Whenever Nipun posted on social media, fans would frequently ask him for an update on Mohanagar 3.
At one point, reports also emerged that production had begun.
It was later reported that Hoichoi Bangladesh was unable to move forward with the project because of budget constraints.
The latest update, however, has come directly from Nipun.
On Wednesday (26 August), he shared a video on Facebook marking his birthday.
At one point, he said, “Anyway, let me finish the script now. I don’t have much time.”
He also appeared to drop a clear hint about which script he was referring to. In the video, Nipun sang the familiar intro music of Mohanagar in his own voice, making it apparent to viewers that work on the long-awaited third season is progressing.
Fans quickly flooded the post with birthday wishes and questions about Mohanagar 3.
One commenter asked, “So, is Mohanagar 3 on the way?” Nipun replied simply, “Yes.”
No specific timeline has yet been announced for the start of filming or the release of Mohanagar 3.
Mosharraf Karim became hugely popular for his portrayal of police officer OC Harun in the first two seasons. He is expected to reprise the role in the third season.
Popular West Bengal actor Anirban Bhattacharya may also appear in the new season as a special addition.
