Armed muggers held an assistant accountant of a developer company at gunpoint and looted Tk2 lakh from him in broad daylight in the capital’s Uttara area on Thursday morning.
The incident took place at around 9:45am in front of Delicious Coffee Shop on Sonargaon Janapath Road in Uttara Sector 11, triggering panic among local residents.
The victim, identified as Nadim Ahmed Sujan, is an assistant accountant of Noor Nafi Developers Limited.
Earlier reports had identified him as a businessman who claimed that Tk2 lakh had been snatched from him.
According to sources, Sujan was travelling by rickshaw from his office in Sector 11 to deposit the money at Janata Bank when the attackers stopped him.
An unidentified man signalled the rickshaw to stop. After it came to a halt, three more men joined him. One of the attackers pointed a pistol at Sujan, introduced himself as “Pistol Babu” and took away the Tk2,01,000 he was carrying before fleeing the scene.
Md Monir Hossain, managing director of Noor Nafi Developers Limited, said Sujan was on his way to the Janata Bank branch in Uttara Sector 6 to pay Rajuk fees when he was targeted by the muggers.
He said preparations were underway to file a complaint with the police station.
Khalid Mansur, officer-in-charge of Uttara West Police Station, confirmed that police had already visited the spot.
“We have not received any written complaint yet,” he said, adding that legal action would be taken after receiving the complaint.
