Armed Forces Day is being observed across the country on Friday through a series of tributes, prayers and official receptions.

President Md Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus paid homage at the Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment early in the morning, placing floral wreaths in memory of the armed forces members martyred in the Liberation War.

Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hasan and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan then placed wreaths on behalf of their respective forces.

The day’s programmes began after the Fazr prayer with special prayers at all cantonment, naval base and air base mosques, seeking the country’s welfare and prosperity, the continued advancement of the armed forces, and eternal peace for Liberation War martyrs.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the Chief Adviser will honour selected gallantry award-winning freedom fighters and their heirs at a reception at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment. He will hand commemorative gifts to 101 award recipients and their heirs and exchange greetings.

Advisers from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, the Chief Adviser’s special assistants, the chiefs of the three services, the Chief Adviser’s principal secretary, the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, and top civil and military officials are scheduled to attend.

A separate reception has also been arranged at Senakunja in Dhaka Cantonment in the afternoon on behalf of the Chief Adviser.
