Apex Footwear has introduced 100 per cent biodegradable shopping bags as part of its sustainability efforts, replacing conventional plastic packaging with bags designed to decompose naturally within seven months.
The bags are made from internationally certified bio-resins and do not contain synthetic materials such as polyethylene and polystyrene, which are commonly used in traditional plastic packaging.
Apex said the bags have been independently tested by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
The company said the bags are designed to break down completely in natural soil after disposal, leaving no harmful residues behind.
The initiative allows customers to use packaging with a lower environmental impact without changing their shopping experience, Apex said.
The move is part of Apex’s broader sustainability programme, which includes synthetic material recycling, rainwater harvesting, renewable energy adoption and energy-efficient infrastructure.
The company said these measures are aimed at reducing its environmental footprint and promoting more responsible business practices.
