BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has cautioned that the anti-independence and pro-Pakistan forces that opposed Bangladesh’s liberation in 1971 are re-emerging in a new guise.
He urged citizens and political parties to stay vigilant to safeguard the nation’s independence and democracy.
Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks while speaking at a discussion organised by BNP at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in Ramna, Dhaka, on Friday, commemorating Independence Day.
“Those who opposed Bangladesh’s independence in 1971 and collaborated with Pakistani forces are now attempting to re-enter politics under a different guise. We must stop them. Any attack on our independence or democracy must be met with unity and firm resistance,” he said.
Addressing political parties, he added, “We must move beyond past divisions. While remembering history is important, our focus should also be on building a modern and prosperous Bangladesh.”
He also called on BNP activists to strengthen the party under Chairman Tarique Rahman’s leadership. “Under his guidance, Bangladesh will stand proud on the world stage by overcoming all conspiracies and anti-democratic forces,” he said.
Home Minister and BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed also addressed the event, emphasizing that the 1971 liberation war is unique and incomparable.
“Attempts to equate the 1971 liberation with the 2024 mass uprising are misguided. The history of 1971 remains unparalleled and indisputable,” he stated.
