Faizur Rahman Mitu has become the fourth director to resign from the Bangladesh Cricket Board since last October’s elections, stepping down following a lengthy board meeting at the BCB office on Saturday that stretched to nearly five hours without conclusion.
Mitu, who served as head of the BCB’s disciplinary committee and as vice-chairman of the CCDM, which oversees the organisation of Dhaka leagues, confirmed his resignation shortly after leaving the board meeting. He told Times of Bangladesh,
“I have submitted my resignation and left the meeting.”
He insisted that his decision was entirely personal, adding, “No, it’s not related to the meeting or anything prior. I resigned purely for personal reasons.”
His departure continues a pattern that has come to define the current BCB board. All four resignations to date have cited personal reasons, and the BCB has yet to formally accept any of them.
The three directors who resigned before Mitu were Ishtiaque Sadeque, who oversaw the Game Development Committee; Amjad Hossain, who chaired the Media Committee; and Yasir Mohammad Foysal Ashiq, an NSC-nominated director who had served as chairman of the Logistics and Protocol Committee. Mitu, like Ishtiaque and Amjad, was elected from the club category in the 5 October elections.
The resignations are unfolding against a backdrop of serious institutional turbulence. Leading Dhaka clubs have been boycotting league matches for six months, citing irregularities in the board elections. In response, the National Sports Council formed a five-member investigation committee on 11 March, tasked with examining those allegations and expected to submit its findings within 15 working days. The scrutiny appears to have done little to stabilise the board, with directors continuing to exit one by one as the investigation runs its course.
Whether Saturday’s meeting produced any resolution to the ongoing crisis remains to be seen. It had not concluded by the time this report was filed.
