Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, the BNP candidate for the Lakshmipur-3 (Sadar) constituency, has addressed the reports regarding “recovered” money from a vehicle used for his campaign.
In a video message posted on his verified Facebook ID on Wednesday (11 February), the candidate clarified the incident and labeled the circulating news as “misleading and intentional.”
Anee, joint secretary general of the party, stated that while he was busy with election activities in Lakshmipur, he was informed that a car used for his campaign work had been searched by the authorities. He explained that his election agent was traveling to various polling centers in the vehicle at the time of the search.
Regarding the funds, Anee clarified that a bag in the vehicle contained Tk15 lakh, which was intended to be distributed as “center fees” across different locations.
He further noted that the authorities inspected the money and a court has already released the funds, confirming their legitimate use for election center expenses.
“There is nothing to be confused about,” Anee stated, adding that he believes the reports were published solely to tarnish his image. He expressed a strong protest against the coverage, describing it as entirely “motivated.”
