Former Secretary Md Aminul Islam has been appointed as the new Managing Director (MD) of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA). The government has given him a contractual appointment for the next one year.
This information was conveyed in a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday.
Dhaka WASA MD Abdus Salam resigned last Sunday following various allegations, including money laundering. The following day, on Monday, Additional Secretary of the Local Government Division, Muhammad Moniruzzaman, was given the additional charge of Dhaka WASA MD.
Just one day later, news of Aminul Islam’s appointment emerged.
The notification stated that according to Section 49 of the Government Service Act-2018, Md Aminul Islam has been given a contractual appointment as Managing Director of Dhaka WASA for a term of one year from the date of joining, subject to the condition that he severs ties with any other profession, business, or employment with government, semi-government, or private organizations or institutions.
The new MD, Aminul Islam, is an officer of the BCS 85 batch. The interim government had given this officer, who retired as a Joint Secretary, a retrospective promotion.
In 2005, he was honored as the “Best Officer” at the national level by the BNP government.
