Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim is set to return home on Monday morning, following flight disruptions across the Middle East caused by escalating tensions after Israel’s attack on Iran. The cricketer, stranded in Jeddah, will fly back on a late Sunday-night flight, an update confirmed by Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque.
“I am fully aware of the situation, and I am personally monitoring it,” Aminul said. “I have already spoken to Mushfiqur Rahim and the cricket board.” His words reflect a hands-on approach to ensuring the senior cricketer’s safe return.
Mushfiqur had travelled to Makkah a few days ago to perform Umrah. His return flight via Dubai on Saturday was disrupted, with Emirates flight EK 0806 forced to turn back due to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
“We hope that Mushfiqur Rahim will be able to return to the country tomorrow morning on tonight’s return flight. He is currently fine and healthy,” Aminul added. The State Minister’s reassurance confirms the cricketer’s safety after a tense few days.
Aminul also urged other Bangladeshi nationals and sportspersons stranded abroad to prioritise safety and return home. “We also urge all our other players and Bangladeshis who are stuck in different places, including Sri Lanka, to return safely. Our best wishes are with everyone.”
Expressing confidence in Mushfiqur’s return, he concluded, “Insha’Allah, Mushfiqur Rahim will return to Bangladesh safely tomorrow (on Monday) morning.”
