A passenger bus of Alif Paribahan came under gunfire before being set ablaze in Mirpur’s Senpara area of the capital on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 7am when several assailants stopped the bus, police said. Law enforcers later seized the torched vehicle.
According to the bus authorities, a man named Nesar, who had previously injured staff members while demanding extortion, may have been involved.
The bus driver said the attackers signalled the vehicle to stop and then beat him and his assistant before forcing them out. Passengers also got off in panic. The assailants then fired several rounds at the windshield before setting the bus on fire.
Mirpur Division Deputy Police Commissioner Mohammad Maksudur Rahman said some recently dismissed employees of Alif Paribahan might have carried out the attack.
“Legal measures are being taken and police are working to uncover the exact cause of the incident,” he added.
