Under the roof of Ariake Coliseum, Alcaraz took control early, breaking Fritz’s serve when the American sent a shot long to secure the first set. Fritz required treatment for a thigh problem before the second set, allowing Alcaraz to capitalise immediately with a blistering forehand break in the opening game. The six-time Grand Slam champion quickly built a 4-1 lead, prompting visible frustration from Fritz, who threw his racket to the floor. Despite a brief wobble on serve later, Alcaraz maintained composure to close out the match and claim his first Tokyo title.
By winning in Tokyo, Alcaraz joined an elite group of players in the 21st century to win eight or more titles in a single season. Roger Federer leads this list, having achieved the feat four times, followed by Rafael Nadal three times, Novak Djokovic twice, and Andy Murray and Jannik Sinner once each.
