The Defence Journalists Association of Bangladesh (DJAB) has elected a new executive committee for the next two-year term, re-electing Alamgir Hossain as president and electing Tarikul Islam Masum as general secretary.

The election was held on Thursday at a resort in Sreemangal following the association’s annual general meeting, where members also approved an 11-member executive body.

Dainik Khoborer Kagoj Special Correspondent Alamgir Hossain served as president in the previous committee, while Channel i Joint Assignment Editor Tarikul Islam Masum was vice-president.

Bangla Tribune Special Correspondent Jamal Uddin has been elected vice-president, and Dhaka Tribune Chief Reporter Ali Asif Shawon joint general secretary.

The other office bearers are Bangladesh Pratidin Senior Reporter Kazi Sohag as treasurer, Rupali Bangladesh Senior Reporter Saif Bablu as organising secretary, The News Chief Reporter Kamal Hossain Talukder as office secretary for publicity and training, and Allcrimes.tv Editor Habibullah Mizan as international and research secretary.

The three executive members are Citizen Journal Special Correspondent Ainal Hossain, Dainik Naya Diganta Senior Reporter SM Mintu, and Dhaka Post Senior Reporter Moni Acharyya.

The election was conducted by a three-member commission led by former DJAB president Mamunur Rashid as chief election commissioner.

The other members were DeshkalNews Assignment Editor Masud Karim and Investigative Journalists Association of Bangladesh (IJAB) President and Jugantor Senior Reporter Neserul Haque Khokon.

An open discussion was also held at the event, focusing on the role of journalists in reporting on state security and strengthening the defence sector.
