Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Akbar Ali has been named captain of the national team for the Hong Kong Sixes 2025, which will be held from 7 to 9 November at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Wednesday.
Bangladesh, who are yet to win the Hong Kong Sixes title, will be looking to build on last year’s strong performance when they reached the semi-finals of the tournament.
Akbar will lead a squad featuring a mix of experience and youth. Bowling all-rounder Abu Hider Rony returns to the side after playing in the 2024 edition, while aggressive opener Jishan Alam keeps his place following a standout campaign last year, where he scored 152 runs at an average of 76 and claimed six wickets in four matches.
All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin, who took three wickets in four games in 2024, has also been retained. The squad includes experienced international Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, who has represented Bangladesh in 80 matches across all formats, adding depth and versatility to the team.
Left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan and pace-bowling all-rounder Tofael Ahmed Rayhan complete the seven-member squad.
The BCB hopes the combination of proven performers and emerging talent will help Bangladesh challenge for their first-ever Hong Kong Sixes title this year.
