The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expanded its nationwide initiative to develop grassroots coaches, launching a three-day Level-A coaching education program in Chattogram. This follows the successful completion of the program in Sylhet.
The course, aimed at academy coaches, was inaugurated on Tuesday morning at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium by BCB Director Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury. A total of 32 academy coaches are participating.
The training panel features senior BCB coaches Wahidul Gani, Golam Faruq Suru, Imdad Imdu, and Nasiruddin Sajib, providing hands-on guidance on modern coaching methods, age-specific player development, and ground management. Caesar is also part of the program as a trainer.
Speaking at the inauguration, Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury emphasised the importance of quality coaching as the foundation for the country’s future cricketers.
Habibul Bashar, former national team captain and Head of Operations at the BCB’s Game Development Division, highlighted that coach development is a crucial step in professionalising the nation’s cricket infrastructure.
“Cricket cannot be spread through playing alone; understanding, studying, and learning the game is equally important. The participants of this course primarily work at grassroots level. By enhancing their skills, the country’s cricket will benefit. This initiative aims to establish a strong coaching structure in every division,” he said.
The programme, which began in Sylhet and now continues in Chattogram, will gradually be rolled out across all divisions. The ultimate goal is to create an environment conducive to player development at the grassroots level while providing skilled coaches for every region.
