Bangladesh Railway has commenced advance ticket sales for Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 from Tuesday, aiming to ensure smooth and comfortable travel for homebound passengers.
Tickets for onward journeys will be available online from 3 March to 9 March, while return tickets can be booked from 13 March to 18 March. All sales will be conducted exclusively through the official online platform.
To manage the expected surge in passengers, the railway will operate five pairs of special trains on the Chattogram–Chandpur, Dhaka–Dewanganj, Bhairab Bazar–Kishoreganj, Mymensingh–Kishoreganj, and Joydebpur–Parbatipur routes.
The decision follows a preparatory meeting at Rail Bhaban on 22 February to review arrangements for the festival. Weekly off-days of intercity trains will be suspended from 16 March until the day before Eid to ensure uninterrupted services.
Divisional and zonal monitoring cells will oversee train punctuality and passenger safety. Additional coaches will be attached to trains based on demand, and relief trains will remain on standby for emergencies. Goods trains, except for container and fuel-carrying services, will be suspended from midnight of 19 March until 6pm on Eid day.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Government Railway Police (GRP), RAB, BGB, and local police, will maintain vigilance at railway stations to prevent ticketless travel and ensure discipline. Passengers have been urged to avoid fraudulent social media links for purchasing tickets and report suspicious sources to authorities.
Railway officials warned that unrepaired Paturia terminals could pose challenges during the peak travel period, urging passengers to plan journeys carefully.
