Anti Corruption Commission has approved cases against the son and daughter of former Narayanganj-4 MP Shamim Osman for failing to submit wealth statements despite official notice.
The move marks a new phase in the legal scrutiny surrounding the family, months after the fall of the Awami League government in August 2024.
ACC Director General Md Akhter Hossain confirmed the decision at a briefing at the commission headquarters on Thursday.
Hossain said separate cases had been approved against Imtinan Osman Ayon and Labiba Zoha Angana under Section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004.
According to ACC officials, the commission issued notices on 26 August asking both to submit detailed asset statements.
They neither complied within the stipulated time nor sought an extension. The failure to submit wealth information constitutes a punishable offence under the law. Section 26(2) states that a person who refuses to submit the statement or is found to have provided false information may face up to three years in prison, or a fine, or both.
Shamim Osman rose to prominence as a powerful Awami League figure in Narayanganj. In July–August 2024 he and his supporters attacked anti-discrimination student protesters in the city. After the Awami League government fell on 5 August, he fled the country with his family and did not return.
The ACC has been probing assets linked to the Osman family since late 2024 as part of a wider post-uprising accountability process.
