Soldier Abu Bakar Siddique and Sonia Akter emerged as champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively at the National Amateur Golf Ranking Tournament, organised by the Bangladesh Golf Federation (BGF).
The three-day event, held at the Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka, brought together 72 amateur golfers from 17 golf clubs across the country, making it one of the most competitive editions in recent years.
In the men’s division, Abu Bakar Siddique secured the title after finishing five shots over par, capping off a consistent performance over the three rounds. In the women’s division, Sonia Akter produced a composed display to claim the top spot, continuing her rise as one of Bangladesh’s brightest prospects in amateur golf.
The prize-giving ceremony took place on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 pm, where awards were handed to the winners by Brigadier General (Retd.) Anisuzzaman, Bir Protik, Member of the BGF Executive Committee and Chairman of the Tournament Committee. Brigadier General (Retd.) Md. Sanaul Haque, Vice Chairman of the Organising Committee, attended as the special guest.
Following his victory, Siddique shared his ambitions to progress in the sport. “My dream is to become a great golfer one day. I want to turn professional and represent Bangladesh proudly at international level,” he said with determination.
Champion golfer Sonia expressed her delight after winning the women’s title. “It feels really good. Winning any title brings happiness, but becoming champion in a ranking tournament means a lot to me,” she said.
The National Amateur Golf Ranking Tournament continues to serve as a key platform for emerging golfers across Bangladesh to showcase their skills and prepare for the next level of competition under the guidance of the Bangladesh Golf Federation.
