Dr Rüdiger Lotz, the newly appointed German Ambassador to Bangladesh, met with Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday.
The meeting took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Trade Adviser’s office in the Secretariat.
During the meeting, various aspects of bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Germany were discussed in detail.
Bashiruddin stated, “Bangladesh and Germany have excellent bilateral trade relations. To strengthen these relations, the trade between the two countries needs to be diversified. This will create opportunities for mutual benefit.”
He added that after the United States, Germany is the second-largest export destination for Bangladeshi products, contributing 10.96% of the country’s total export income.
The Adviser also urged German importers to increase imports of Bangladesh’s manufactured garments, home textiles, pharmaceuticals, plastic products, shoes, bicycles, and leather goods.
German Ambassador Dr Rüdiger Lotz expressed his interest in working to enhance trade relations with Bangladesh. He further mentioned that Germany would continue to keep the ongoing activities with Bangladesh active and push forward the diversification process to improve economic relations.
In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Bangladesh exported goods worth 4,850.89 million US dollars to Germany and paid 940.60 million US dollars for imports.

Embassy Enza Kristen were also present at the meeting.
