One of Bangladesh’s most traditional clubs, Abahani Limited Dhaka, are finally free of their FIFA registration bans. The club now face no restrictions on playing in the new season, completing the club licensing process or registering players.
Abahani had been subject to three separate registration bans. Two had already been lifted, while the final one was removed on Tuesday night. FIFA’s registration ban list confirms that such bans prevent clubs from registering new players until they are served or lifted.
The development is a significant step for Abahani, who had been under a three-window ban since November 2025 over outstanding payments to foreign players.
According to the FIFA registration ban portal, Bangladeshi clubs still have 15 active bans. Bashundhara Kings account for 10 of them, although four of their previous bans have already been lifted.
Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club have two bans, while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Soccer Club Feni have one each.
The situation continues to affect the start of the new domestic season. The Challenge Cup was scheduled to open the campaign on 21 August, but it has been called off because Bashundhara Kings remain under registration bans.
The Federation Cup is scheduled to begin on 24 August, followed by the first round of the Bangladesh Premier League on 28 and 29 August.
Abahani’s clearance means the club can now complete their preparations without the registration restrictions that had affected them in the build-up to the new season.
