Veteran actor, playwright and producer Engineer AB Siddique was laid to rest at his family graveyard in Mymensingh following two funeral prayers on Friday.
The first janaza was held after Jumu’ah prayers at Chukaitola Purbapara Jame Mosque in Mymensingh Sadar.
A second funeral prayer took place after Asr prayers in his birthplace, Berua, Phulpur, before he was buried at the family cemetery.
AB Siddique died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at BIRDEM General Hospital in Dhaka. He was 74.
He was widely recognised for portraying the character Nibaran in Humayun Ahmed’s acclaimed television drama Oyomoy, a performance that earned him widespread popularity among audiences.
Beyond television, Siddique also appeared in the Bengali film Padma Nadir Majhi.
He served for many years as a producer at Bangladesh Television (BTV), where he created several successful productions.
His written television serial Kuashamukto Akash became a popular programme on BTV.
He also produced and conceptualised the magic-themed magazine show Mayajal for ATN Bangla, which gained a loyal audience.
His death has been mourned by Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare Nurul Haque Nur, and the president and general secretary of the Directors’ Guild Bangladesh, among others.
