Another woman’s repeated cries—”Please, someone take him to the hospital”—echoed through the valley, underscoring the sheer desperation and horror that unfolded.
The victims included tourists from Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Haryana, and Karnataka. Among the deceased were Dilip Disle and Atul Mone from Maharashtra, whose deaths were confirmed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. A realtor from Karnataka’s Shivamogga district was reportedly shot dead in front of his wife and son. The attack also claimed the lives of a Navy officer and an Intelligence Bureau official.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attackers as “animals”, saying the scale of this tragedy surpasses any recent civilian-targeted violence in the region. He assured the public that medical care for the injured is being prioritised.
An anti-terror operation has been launched to hunt down the assailants. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha confirmed the security response is in full swing.
