Emerging artist Hridita Anisha’s solo exhibition, ‘A Drawing Room’, opened on September 9 at Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD), La Galerie, in Dhanmondi.
The show presents works inspired by children’s illustration styles, inviting visitors to rediscover simplicity, innocence and playfulness.
With the exhibition, Anisha reimagines the landscapes of her childhood where cats curl into stories, fishes swim through dreams and fantastical creatures roam freely, transforming the gallery into a whimsical playground of living imagination.
Speaking about the exhibition to TIMES of Bangladesh, the artist said, “Children’s art has opened a gateway to simplicity, something I deeply value as it allows me to express myself clearly without being misinterpreted. Working with children’s illustration has taught me to simplify form, which not only resonates with my academic training but also helps me communicate in a way that is accessible to everyone.”
“Through this language of simplicity, I want to speak about peace, unity, harmony and happiness – the very things we often find missing in our city,” Anisha added.
Hridita Anisha, a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University, earned her BFA in 2017 and MFA in 2019 in Oriental Art. For the past five years, she has immersed herself in the world of children’s art and illustration, researching its forms, collaborating with children’s book publishers and weaving its playful spirit together with the folk traditions of Bangladesh and South Asia.
A Drawing Room will run till September 17, open to all from Monday to Saturday, 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi.
