Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has instructed the chiefs of the three armed forces to take all necessary measures for ensuring full-proof security and peaceful situation during the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, scheduled for the first half of February.
This directive came during a meeting held at the state guesthouse Jamuna at 7pm on Saturday, where Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan met Yunus.
National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman was also present.
During the meeting, took place amid rifts among major political partis and an uncertainty over holding of the election by mid-February, the chief adviser praised members of the armed forces for their dedication to maintaining national security and law and order.
Yunus added that over the past 15 months, personnel of the army, navy, and air force have worked tirelessly to preserve peace and stability. He also directed the forces to ensure comprehensive security coverage during the forthcoming polls.
“The interim government is committed to holding a free, fair, neutral, peaceful, and festive election in the first half of February,” the chief adviser said.
The chiefs of the three services informed Yunus that all necessary preparations are underway for the election.
To maintain law and order during the polls, around 90,000 army personnel, 2,500 navy members, and a number of air force members will be deployed. One army company will be stationed in each upazila.
The chiefs of three forces also invited Muhammad Yunus to attend the Armed Forces Day celebration scheduled for 21 November.
