Defying police embargo hundreds of students and alumni of Jagannath university spend Thursday night on Kakrail area creating road blockade to press home their four demands. Former students of Jagannath University have also joined their protest rally at around 11am.
He said “We will go for mass hunger strike after Jummah prayers on Friday” , he said.
The four-point demand includes: zero university budget cut, approval and transfer of the second campus project to the army, offering housing allowances to 70% students till permanent halls are being built and probe on “unprovoked police attack” on students on May 14 and exemplary punishment of the offenders.
The students reiterated their demand on Friday morning and joined in the sit-in protest rally in Kakrail area and announced that after Jumma prayers they will go for mass hunger strike till government agrees to their ‘lawful demands’.
Rais Uddin, general secretary of the Jagannath University Teachers’ Association, announced the programmes at midnight Thursday, reports UNB.
The professor said, “We have come to assert our rights. Police have indiscriminately attacked us. This is injustice. We will not go home without fulfilling our demands. ”
The teacher’s leader warned that the movement will continue until a clear declaration regarding the demands are made.
