A Panama‑flagged cargo vessel sank about 240 nautical miles off India’s Odisha coast on Saturday.
The MV Ocean‑Winner, operated by Victory Star Group Co Ltd, had departed Paradip Port at 10.30pm on 20 August carrying 1,700 tonnes of iron ore bound for Singapore.
The ship had 24 crew members on board — 20 Chinese nationals, three from Myanmar, and one from Bangladesh, reports NDTV.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Sri Vijaya Puram received an alert at 11.48am on 22 August after communication with the vessel was lost. The company requested immediate search and rescue assistance.
Coast Guard ships Varad and Anmol were dispatched, with a third vessel, Vijit, deployed from Sri Vijaya Puram to support the mission.
Two crew members were rescued from life rafts, officials said. Other ships in the vicinity have been alerted to assist.
A senior IPS officer told PTI that the search continues for the remaining crew.
