Bangladesh will participate in the 37th Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting to be held Saturday in Geneva, on the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly.

Director General of Health Services Dr Namzul Hossain will represent Bangladesh at the meeting, along with senior officials from the country’s Permanent Mission in Geneva. The 37th CHMM will be convened under the theme: “Investing in Health: Sustainable Financing for an Equitable Commonwealth”.

According to a report by UNB, this will be the first ministerial meeting to be attended by Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey since taking office on April 1 of this year. She will join development partners to discuss how the Commonwealth can build momentum around investment to address shocks to health systems in its member countries.

The meeting will be chaired by the Health Minister of Lesotho Selibe Mochoboroane.

The meeting is expected to bring together health ministers, senior government officials, and global health leaders from across the Commonwealth, where they will discuss significant issues such as innovative financing models and approaches for strengthening healthcare systems, advocating for adequate investment to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to improve health outcomes, and practical solutions to bolster climate resilience.
