The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will be held in India and Sri Lanka in February. This edition will mark the first time 20 nations compete in the tournament.
So far, 19 teams have confirmed their spots. Oman and Nepal became the latest sides to qualify on Wednesday, leaving one final place open from the Asia-Pacific region.
The Asia-Pacific Qualifier is currently underway in the UAE. Oman and Nepal have already secured their places in the main event, even though the Super Six stage still has matches left. In their latest clash, Nepal defeated Oman by 38 runs, scoring 151 for 9 before restricting Oman to 113 for 9.
That win kept Nepal unbeaten, putting them on top of the table with 8 points. Oman followed in second place with 6 points. Earlier in the round, the UAE kept their hopes alive with a 77-run win over Samoa. The UAE made 225 runs, while Samoa finished on 148 for 8.
The UAE remain in the race to become the 20th and final team in the World Cup. They are third in the table with 4 points from 4 matches. Japan and Qatar both have 2 points, but Japan have one match in hand. The UAE will face Japan on Thursday, and victory will send them to the World Cup.
Hosts India and Sri Lanka have already qualified automatically. From the top seven teams of the 2024 T20 World Cup, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the USA, and West Indies also booked their places. Ireland, New Zealand, and Pakistan joined through ICC rankings.
The remaining eight slots come from regional qualifiers. So far, seven are confirmed. Canada qualified from the Americas, Italy and the Netherlands from Europe, and Namibia and Zimbabwe from Africa. Oman and Nepal now join from the Asia-Pacific region, with one last team yet to be decided.
