Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has expressed grave concern over a recent incident that went viral on social media, where a group of individuals was seen forcibly cutting the hair of an elderly man in public.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the human rights organisation condemned the act, calling it “inhumane, illegal, and a blatant violation of the Constitution and fundamental human rights.”
Citing specific constitutional provisions, ASK noted that Article 31 guarantees every citizen the right to a dignified life under the protection of law, Article 32 ensures the right to life and personal liberty, and Article 35 prohibits any form of cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment.
ASK stated that the forced haircut was not only a violation of the victim’s basic rights and personal freedom but also a direct assault on their dignity. The organisation warned that such actions contribute to a climate of fear, insecurity, and lawlessness in society.
“This incident is a clear affront to the rule of law and human rights,” the statement read.
ASK called on authorities to urgently identify and bring the perpetrators to justice. The organisation also urged the state to take effective and preventive measures to ensure that no citizen is subjected to such humiliation or unlawful treatment in the future.
