Four members of a family sustained burn injuries after an air conditioner exploded at their flat in the capital’s Jatrabari early Friday.

The victims were admitted to National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in a critical condition.

The incident occurred around 1.30am at a flat on the 7th floor of a building near Lichubagan Mosque in Dhalpur Bou Bazar area.

The injured were identified as Md Tuhin Hossain, 38, his wife Iba Akter, 30, and their two sons Tanvir, 9, and Tawhid, 7. Tuhin works at a mobile servicing shop in Motaleb Plaza while the family hails from Sadar upazila of Madaripur.

Quoting Tuhin’s sister-in-law Farzana Akter, police said the four were asleep when the AC suddenly exploded, triggering a fire in the room. Neighbours rushed in, doused the flames, and took the injured to the burn institute.

Doctors said all four were in critical condition.
