Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has stated that if their five-point demands are met, Jamaat is ready to participate in the upcoming elections anytime.
He emphasised that Jamaat is a party focused on elections and is always prepared to contest.
Speaking as the chief guest at a rally held by Jamaat in Anderkilla area of Chattogram on Friday, Rafiqul condemned those accusing the party of attempting to derail the election through protests. He reaffirmed that Jamaat is not a party that backs away from polls.
The rally, held to press for the party’s five-point demands, including elections in February 2026, ended with a procession led by Jamaat leaders and activists.
Rafiqul added, “Since the country’s independence, three main parties have governed Bangladesh. One party had to flee the country, another became defunct due to excessive sycophancy, and the third turned Bangladesh into a five-time champion of corruption.
“Since 5 August 2024, the country has been plagued by extortion, with some factions now plotting to devour the country.”
He remarked that after 5 August, a party believed they had become the owner of Bangladesh, but power belongs to the people, who will elect those they choose.
The assistant secretary general expressed confidence that the success of Islami Chhatra Shibir in DUCSU and JUCSU elections would continue and result in a silent revolution in the upcoming national election, which no one can prevent.
Jamaat’s five-point demands are – organising the election in February 2026 based on the July Charter; implementing the PR system in both houses of Parliament for the upcoming polls; ensuring a level playing field for all political parties to guarantee a free and fair election; bringing justice for the fascist government’s atrocities, genocide, and corruption; and banning the activities of the collaborators of autocracy, including the Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance.
Other leaders who spoke at the rally included Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan, Chattogram city Nayeb-e-Ameer Nazrul Islam, and Secretary Prof Muhammad Nurul Amin.
