Joint forces have arrested 29 individuals and recovered five illegal firearms from different parts of the country over the past eight days.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) disclosed the information in a press release issued on Thursday night.
According to the release, from 11 September to Thursday, various infantry divisions and independent brigades of the Bangladesh Army, in coordination with other law enforcing agencies, carried out joint drives in Dhaka and elsewhere across the country.

During these drives, 29 criminals including identified top terrorists, extortionists, illegal arms holders, drug dealers, thieves, fraudsters, juvenile gang members, and drug addicts were arrested red-handed.

From their possession, five illegal firearms, one magazine, 10 rounds of ammunition, locally-made weapons used in criminal activities, drugs, fake NIDs, an ID card bearing the rank of military captain, counterfeit credit and debit cards, silver, mobile phones, stolen goods, and cash were seized.

The arrestees have been handed over to the police stations, ISPR said.

The release added that the Bangladesh Army has been conducting regular patrols and security operations in different areas to ensure public safety. The army is also directly involved in controlling labour unrest in industrial zones.
