The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a case against six individuals, including Dhaka South City Corporation’s former CEO Khan Mohammad Bilal on charges of evading government revenue of Tk 25.13 crore through irregularities and corruption in the installation of LED billboards in the city streets.
ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam confirmed the matter on Tuesday.
DSCC’s former deputy chief revenue officer Yusuf Ali Sardar, TCL Optoelectronics Ltd Managing Director Akhtar Hamid Khan, Best One’s proprietor Momtaz Begum, Boishakhi Traders’ proprietor Gaffar Elahi, G-Tech’s and proprietor Sultana Dil Afroza have been included in the case.
According to ACC, the approved rate for allocating LED signboards on DSCC-owned land or buildings, as well as on land or buildings of government, semi-government, or autonomous bodies within the city corporation area, was fixed at TK20 thousand per square foot on an annual approval or renewable basis.
However, the accused, through fraudulent means, recorded the rate as only 800 per square foot, causing the government a huge revenue loss. The ACC’s investigation found that this resulted in an evasion of TK 25.13 in government revenue, according to ACC.
