Jamaat-e-Islami senior leaders held separate meetings with British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke and Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryall on Wednesday to discuss issues of mutual interest, including the upcoming national election.

They discussed the UK’s partnership with Bangladesh and the party’s preparations for the elections.

The British High Commission said the meeting was part of a “series of meetings” with political parties in Bangladesh.

In another development, Jamaat leaders held another meeting with the Australian high commissioner.

The discussion centred on Bangladesh’s upcoming national elections, the proportional representation (PR) system, and Jamaat’s role in strengthening democracy.

Additionally, Jamaat’s perspective on women’s rights, economic, social, and administrative empowerment of women came for discussion.

The meeting also covered the economic potential of Bangladesh, particularly in the energy and garment sectors.
