Sadik Kayem, vice president (VP) candidate of Shibir-backed Oikkoboddho Shikkharthi Jote, has accused Bangladesh Chhatra Dal of violating the electoral code of conduct during the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.
Kayem alleged that Chhatra Dal set up help desks within 100 metres of polling centres and distributed leaflets among students standing in line to vote.
Speaking to reporters after casting his ballot at Udayan School and College centre on Tuesday morning, Kayem said, “In this election, all candidates, voters and the Election Commission must act responsibly.
“But at present, many outsiders are trying to enter the polling centres, which may raise questions about the fairness of the election. I urge the authorities to tighten security measures.”
“I also request the Election Commission to take strict action against those who are violating the code of conduct,” he added.
Responding to the allegation, Nasir Uddin Nasir, general secretary of the Chhatra Dal Central Committee, said, “The accusations against Chhatra Dal are completely baseless. Our booths have been set up around 150 metres away from the polling centres.”
