US President Donald Trump has described the historic meeting of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as an anti-American conspiracy.
“May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America.”
At the same time, extending congratulations to President Xi Jinping and the people of China on their victory, Trump said, “Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope they are rightfully Honored and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice!”
On Wednesday, Beijing organised the largest “Victory Day Parade” in China’s history, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. World leaders were invited to the event.
Alongside Putin and Kim, those attending included Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Myanmar’s military junta chief Min Aung Hlaing, and leaders from 26 other nations.
However, Trump and other Western leaders were conspicuously absent.
Trump viewed the joint presence of Kim, Putin, and Xi – ignoring US warnings – as unfavourable, although earlier, he had said that the close relationship between China, Russia, and “some other countries” was not a global-level challenge for the United States.
In an interview with the BBC, Trump stated that Beijing and its allies were not forming an international alliance against the US; rather, China itself needed America’s help.
Trump had boasted of having a “very good relationship with President Xi”, adding that China needs the United States far more than the US needs China.
In a radio interview on Tuesday, ahead of China’s military parade at Tiananmen Square on Wednesday, Trump warned, “We have the strongest military in the world, by far. They would never use their military on us. Believe me, that would be the worst thing they could ever do.”
Meanwhile, since the imposition of additional tariffs under Trump’s policy, China has been trying to establish itself on the world stage as a rival to the United States. Against that backdrop, the presence of leaders from 26 countries alongside Xi Jinping is being seen by diplomatic analysts as a clear message to the Western world.
