The court has granted bail to speech-impaired Sayeed Sheikh, who was arrested from an Awami League procession in Gulistan. On Tuesday, Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Zakir Hossain issued the order, approving his bail in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
His lawyer, Mohammad Liton Mia, confirmed this information. He stated that there are no other cases against the accused. Therefore, there are no further obstacles to his release from jail. He may be freed from prison tomorrow after the bail bond is submitted.
Previously, on August 24, Sayeed was arrested by police from an Awami League procession in Gulistan. The next day, the investigating officer of the case, SI Maksudul Hasan of Paltan Model Thana, produced Sayeed and two others before the court and sought an order to detain them in jail. The court granted the plea and sent the accused to jail.
The charges in the case filed with Paltan Thana state that the accused chanted anti-state and anti-government slogans with the intention of disrupting the country’s law and order and causing a major incident. At the same time, they attempted to organize an illegal assembly.
