Banglalink has become the first mobile network operator in Bangladesh to integrate solar power into its data center. The company installed an 80KW solar power system at its Gazipur Data Center, marking a key step in its commitment to sustainability.
The solar system will generate around 0.13 Gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually, reducing carbon emissions by 60 tons per year and saving the company USD 12,600 annually in energy costs. The system utilizes 9,000 square feet of previously unused rooftop space.
Huseyin Turker, Chief Technology and Information Officer of Banglalink, emphasized that this initiative sets a national benchmark for sustainable innovation. He highlighted that Banglalink aims to expand green energy generation by utilizing unused spaces and reducing its carbon footprint.
This project aligns with the Bangladesh Energy Efficiency and Conservation Masterplan 2030 and supports global sustainability standards, ensuring regulatory compliance and strengthening the infrastructure’s readiness for the future.
By incorporating solar energy, Banglalink not only lowers its environmental impact but also enhances operational efficiency. The initiative reflects Banglalink’s goal of embedding sustainable practices across its digital infrastructure, encouraging other telecom operators to adopt renewable energy models.
