A prisoner accused in a case under the Women and Children Abuse Prevention Act died in Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Shri Kiran Paritosh Chandra, 50, son of Jogendra Chandra Sutradhar of Kapasia, Gazipur.
He was brought unconscious from the jail to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 11am where doctors examined him and declared him dead.
According to doctors, Md Faruk in-charge (Inspector) of Dhaka Medical Police Camp said Kiran fell ill in jail after which jail officials rushed him to DMCH. The body has been kept in the morgue for autopsy.
According to jail sources, he was an accused in a case filed under the Women and Children Abuse Prevention Act at Vatara Police Station in the capital. He was detained as an under-trial prisoner in Dhaka Central Jail.
