Renowned Bangladeshi journalist, lyricist and film critic Johny Hoque has once again been selected as an international voter for the Golden Globe Awards. This marks his second consecutive year on the official voting panel, participating in the 83rd edition of the prestigious awards.
The Golden Globe Awards’ official website recently released the names of 389 international voters from around the world, with brief profiles. Johny Hoque first made history in 2024 as the first Bangladeshi voter for the 82nd Golden Globes, a milestone for the country’s global recognition in film and television.
Reflecting on his renewed selection, Hoque said, “It is a great honour to once again assess some of the finest films and series worldwide. Representing Bangladesh on this global platform is both a privilege and a responsibility.”
He also recalled his previous experience, sharing how rewarding it was to watch diverse content in various languages, many of which later received official nominations and even Oscar wins.
Alongside Johny Hoque, four other Bangladeshis — Sadia Khalid, Adar Rahman,
Monzurul Alom and Sanjoy Das — have also been included on this year’s voter list. The 83rd Golden Globes, scheduled for January 11, 2026, will include 28 categories, including the newly added Best Podcast.
A veteran of over two decades in entertainment journalism, Johny Hoque is well known for covering the Cannes Film Festival (eight times since 2015) and for his book Cannes Kotha (2019).
He has also covered Busan and other major festivals. As a lyricist, he won the
Best Lyricist Award at the Bangladesh Film Directors Association Awards 2022 for the song ‘Cholo Niralai’ from Poran.
