Yunus off to Doha to attend Earthna Summit 2025

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is visiting Qatar on Monday to participate in Earthna Summit 2025 at the invitation of Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Dr Yunus will hold a bilateral meeting with Emir Sheikh Tamim on the sidelines of the summit, foreign ministry officials said.

Conflicts in the Middle East, Rohingya crisis and other global issues may also come up during the discussion, MOFA sources said.

Prof Yunus will present a keynote in the second edition of the Earthna summit that will bring together over 1,000 participants from more than 100 countries, including ministers, business leaders, academics, and youth leaders.

With more than 75 speakers and 20 sessions, the summit will tackle key areas such as sustainable urbanism, traditional knowledge, biodiversity, and education.

The summit will produce discourses on ” Sustainability, Innovation, and Traditional Knowledge,” on April 22-23 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Bin Jelmood Museum and Barahat Msheireb.

Bangladesh will focus on different themes such as environment, sustainable development, energy cooperation, investment, manpower export, and immigration.

Dr Yunus’s official entourage to Qatar visit includes four Bangladeshi female sportspersons. The athletes are footballers Afeida Khandaker and Shaheda Akter Ripa and cricketers Sumaiya Akter and Sharmin Sultana. This is the first time a team of female sportsperson is joining a head of government on an official state visit.

Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, Energy Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan and Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan may also accompany Chief adviser during the state visit.
