Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam on Tuesday urged Romania to resume labour recruitment from Bangladesh and called for exploring deeper cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.
He made the call during a meeting with Sena Latif, the non-resident Ambassador of Romania to Bangladesh, who paid a courtesy call at the Foreign Ministry following the presentation of her credentials.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation.
Foreign Secretary Siam proposed enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, labour mobility, education, and consular services. He also highlighted opportunities for trade diversification and investment in sectors such as ICT, renewable energy, and agro-processing.
To strengthen educational ties, he suggested launching joint scholarship programmes, mutual recognition of academic degrees, and university-level exchanges between the two countries.
Ambassador Latif welcomed the proposals and assured that she would convey them to the Romanian authorities. She also noted Bangladesh’s request for facilitating visa services for students and workers through interim consular arrangements.
The Foreign Secretary, in turn, assured the ambassador of the Government of Bangladesh’s full support in her efforts to further strengthen bilateral relations during her tenure.
